Mohave Shovel-nosed Snake (Chionactis occipitalis occipitalis)




Here is a very nice looking Shovel-nosed snake Zack, Mike & I found in Riverside County while roadcruising... these guys are kind of tough to spot on the road. As you can see they are also very fast, as soon as I started taking photos.... it dove into the sand.


Red Diamond Rattlesnake (Crotalus ruber)




Here is a very big Red Diamond Rattlesnake we ran into while hiking very close to home. This rattlesnake looks pretty similar to a Western Diamondback... but has a very nice red tint. This snake was found in Los Angeles County, California by Alexus & Richard Cazares.

Tiger Whiptail (Aspidoscelis tigris)



We chased this Whiptail down in the scorching desert sun to get a few pics. It calmed down once we wore it out... we took a few pics then let it go.

This was found in Vulture Mine in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Northern Desert Nightsnake (Hypsiglena chlorophaea deserticola)


Found this very tiny Night Snake near the Colorado River on a very lonely stretch of road. These guys are mildly venomous... but harmless to humans.

Desert Rosy Boa (Lichanura trivirgata gracia)


Here is a very nice looking Desert Rosy Boa from La Paz County, Arizona. Found with Ted way up high in the desert mountains... about 3850ft (elevation). This was our biggest boa for sure, about 34" long & female.

San Diego Ring-necked Snake (Diadophis punctatus similis)




Here are some amazing looking snakes. Before I got back into herping... I would have never thought these little gems would be so close to home. These guys were found and released in San Diego County. Check out the beautiful colors of these guys... when they get alarmed, they curl up the end of their tails and really flash some color!

Sonoran Sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes cercobombus)




While visiting Maricopa County in October of 2009 we were able to see alot of crotes. We had one night where Alexus and I (Richard) saw about 27 crotes. Here are a few of our favorites of the night, as soon as we hit the washes, alot of them came out... Sonoran Sidewinders!

Reptile Photo Shoot




We were lucky enough to do a photo shoot for work... a new program aimed at stopping the use of real fur & exotic skins... instead using very beautiful textiles. This is a program that will be closely linked to Peta.

Alexus & Stephanie were also able to attend and got to check out the American Crocodile & Yellow Anaconda. Thanks Zack!

Coastal Rosy Boa (Lichanura trivirgata roseofusca)



Our first road cruised Rosy Boa from infamous Whitewater. This gal was spotted and caught by Alexus Cazares (12) and given to Stephanie... Her first snake, a gift from her older sister.

Colorado Desert Sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes laterorepens)

Here is a very young Mohave Desert Sidewinder found by the girls in a very sandy wash while road crusing along the border of California & Arizona in 2009.

Hybrid California Kingsnake & Pueblan Milksnake



Here is a beautiful hybrid owned by Alexus Cazares... look at the awesome pattern on its head. This snake also has some of the brightest colors we have seen on a snake.

California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)



Here is a very rare 75% Blotched Morph California Kingsnake from San Diego County... Found by Alexus & Richard Cazares. This kingsnake was later identified to be the rarest morph of California Kingsnake by the Great BRIAN HUBBS.

Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox)


Here is a very big Atrox Alexus & Stephanie spotted on highway 10 in Riverside County. Very mean guy, we carefully got him off the road and took a few photos.

Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake (Crotalus mitchellii pyrrhus)


Here is one of many Specks we have seen on one of our favorite roads to cruise in Riverside County.

Here is a beautiful looking lyre snake found at the north end of Riverside County in California.
